That was over a year ago, and after getting to know the teaching team (Chad Albaugh, Mark Burris, Ryan Dunbar, Mike Harbour, Steve Robinson, Steve Street, Jason Temple, and Warren Woodham) I must say that I think she got it right.
These guys awake at the time the average college kid is heading to bed so they can drive to Malvern, make their way across the coldest place on earth (this designation is unofficial, but penguins would find the Unit's parking lot a little chilly), through the crash gates, and into the chapel to start class at 5:30am.
They've graduated 2 groups with a third planned to start Oct 30. The program has become so popular that no sign up sheet is posted - instead participants are selected from a waiting list.
This crew has earned the respect and gratitude of the Chaplain and prison staff because of the behavioral difference they see in the inmates. We're looking forward to stories from the newest class.
